Yuki Tsunoda's Qualifying Crash | Imola GP 2025

During qualifying for the 2025 Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix at Imola, Yuki Tsunoda suffered a major crash in Q1 while driving the Red Bull RB21.

As he approached the fast Variante Villeneuve chicane, he took too much kerb, lost control of the car, and slammed into the inside wall. The impact caused his car to lift and roll before coming to rest, triggering an immediate red flag so that the barriers could be repaired.

Despite the severity of the accident, Tsunoda was able to climb out of the wreck unaided and was later declared fit after routine medical checks. His car, however, was heavily damaged on all four corners, forcing the team to rebuild much of it overnight.

Tsunoda described the incident as a “stupid mistake,” admitting he had pushed too hard too early in qualifying.

Because he failed to set a time, he was permitted to start the race from the pit lane after his team replaced several components. The crash disrupted the session and drew attention to the effectiveness of modern F1 safety systems, which protected Tsunoda from serious injury.
