Fernando Alonso's ludicrous F1 driving style explained

Whether he’s got the best car (as he last had a decade ago) or the worst car (as he does now) in Formula 1, Fernando Alonso’s driving always catches our eye. At 44-years-old, and with well over 400+ F1 races under his belt, Alonso is one of a kind in F1 folklore, but exactly what makes him so special - and at the top of his game for so long - remains something of an enigma. Two men well placed to dissect Alonso’s unique driving style are Mark Hughes and Edd Straw, who, between them, have followed Alonso’s F1 career from his very first race with Minardi 25 years ago. Alonso is the subject of the first episode of series three of Driving Style Secrets with Mark and Edd. This series will look at some of the key champions of the 21st century - from Sebastian Vettel to Kimi Raikkonen, to Jenson Button and Nico Rosberg - and the full series (as well as the back catalogue) is only available exclusively to The Race Members' Club. 00:00 Intro 04:30 Alonso’s ludicrous style 11:57 His Verstappen/Schumacher trait 13:30 Barely any decline 15:05 One of the best in bad cars 19:20 Flawed outside of the car? 24:05 A unique driver 27:00 Where does he stand among the greats?
